Introducing our concept of helping families rise out of poverty through education!

07/11/2011

What is Conchetta House?

Conchetta House is a program that helps single parent families complete college , once they have made the decision that an education and employment is the answer to rise out of poverty and onto a successful future for themselves and their children.   When the funds are available, we offer a subsidized housing program that often times is the  difference between  graduation and dropping out of school.

What are the components of the Conchetta House program?

Conchetta House is a housing assistance program and  much more.  We address the reasons why our families came to be in poverty through a peer mentoring system of acknowledgement and support to change.  Not every parent is ready to accept the changes that success may bring to their lives, and our program is not for those who aren’t  ready to  create change and become successful.

Housing

Conchetta House  encourages our residents ( currently) to stay in the housing they already have or have them find a housing situation that will support their family.  We do not believe in “stacking”  many people into small apartments, but believe that rebuilding a life means creating dignity and responsibility.  That dignity and citizenship is created by increasing self esteem and community citizenship.

Conchetta House also works with the business community and some non-profit housing agencies to “adopt” our families.

We also maintain strong ties with the family and encourage them to be good tenants and citizens through training and community support.  Sandra Kozlowski has an individual relationship with every resident, and is passionate about their dreams and goals!

Family Support

Conchetta House believes that safe housing supports the children of our families to prosper and grow.  When children watch their parents complete college, the children’s’ chances of the college completion statistically becomes  higher.

We have found that when the family has been homelessness for some time, the children have been moved place to place, disrupting their schooling and friends.   Grades suffer, socialization is minimal and fear of abandonment fills the children’s lives.  Conchetta House strives to keep families in one area so that the children have the opportunity that homelessness can rob them of…..a joy-filled family.

Academic Focus

Our parents MUST be in college/ training program, maintain excellent attendance, and grades must be maintained or increased.  Families are encouraged to work closely with the services at their schools for tutoring and are held accountable for their grades.

Children must also be in school at their appropriate age level, with good attendance.

Career Focus

Conchetta House works with families on resume writing, social media etiquette, and networking.  We believe that college/training is one step toward self-sufficiency, the next is being able to apply all the knowledge that they have worked so hard to gain.

It is our hope that the businesses community  will  help to support their” future peers”  financially  our program and provide mentoring to  our students into their desired field.    This will build a stronger and more talented work force by combining the academic and the “real world” experience!

Financial Training

Conchetta House works with ethical financial planners and counselors who volunteer their time with our students  and help them to develop a personalized financial plan for stability.  If the students decline working with our financial planners and counselors, they are held to a high level of accountability of how they utilize their resources in planning for their future.

At Conchetta House, we are honored to meet determined parents who want more for their lives, and  the lives of their children.  We are more than a transitional program, we are a life reclaiming agency!
